Many people are asking what generics mean.

From time to time, don't find many people asking this question about their medicines. Exactly what are generic medications? Except for the price, exactly what is the difference between peace vacations and namebrand?

You will find out the answers below

Given medication, you'll definitely find different types with respect to what we call prescription medication. You have the generic and name brands. Brand names come from a definite marketing plan I have a certain product. For example, we have all heard of the well known brand of Toshiba. Most people think of quality when they think of this Brand.

You'll find generic drugs to be created of the same ingredients and will be available in the same dose and the strength of those name branded versions. The generic versions will be manufactured to the same requirements as brand-name versions and often in the same manufacturing company. In composition, amount, and effects to the body, generics and brand name drugs are identical.

The major differences between these types will be in the name and the tag. When we refer to tag, we refer to a marketing term used to set apart one product from another in the market. Those medications with brand names will have their own distinct logos, shapes and color. Although some generic pills will look different on the outside from their counterpart brand-name versions, they will still work in the same way. Specific requirements for manufacturing the generic type in sure the quality for the customer.

Are generic drugs as reliable as brand name pills?

it's important to explain that these generic medications are always tested thoroughly under the exact same standards as brand-name medications. Each generic drug will be completely laboratory tested in order to ensure that it will be absorbed into the body at the same amount as a brand-name drug.

Regarding side effects, these generic drugs will act in the same way as brand-name versions. These generics will work the same way in all people given that they may be children, adults and/or elderly.

As there is no need to spend money on research, marketing & advertising.

Are generic drugs regulated?

The FDA approves generic drugs just like they do brand-name versions. The FDA, or Food and Drug Administration, regulates the market and protects the public by inspecting drug manufacturers, and recalling products that do not meet stringent standards. Manufacturing plants are also inspected by the FDA to make sure that they are compliant with FDA standards. The U.S Food and Drug Administration has accomplished 3,500 inspections annually to ensure that the standards for medicines are met. Take for example Intas, (one of the medication suppliers in India) it has upgraded its manufacturing capabilities to much greater levels and standards. It continues to receive regulatory approval of agencies like FDA, MHRA, TGA, ANVISA.

Are generic drugs patented?

No, but it's also very important to note that having a patent certainly does not make it any more reliable.

Manufacturers always patent their products so that they will have the exclusive rights to produce and manufacture a drug for a certain period of time. As defined, a patent is a policy provided to people who seek protection for their intellectual property. In effect, the government gives the inventor the right to produce, manufacture and sell his invention exclusively in exchange for sharing the details of the invention to the public domain. As an intellectual property, owners can also license their patented products as well as mortgage, assign, or transfer the right to other parties. These rights only apply until the patent expires.

Generic versions of these medicines can be produced after their patent expires since it will not be legal for anyone to take advantage of the invention without repercussions. The length of applied patents for US drug products is 20 years. Although it may seem that it is a long time, we have to remember that patents must be approved first before clinical trials begin. Excluding clinical trial and testing, the life of a US drug patent is pegged at seven to twelve years.

Generic pills can be produced based on these 4 reasons:

  1. The patent has expired
  2. The patent for the drug is invalid, or hard to enforce
  3. Non-existence of a drug patent from the start
  4. Under government where U.S. patents are not enforced.

For guidance on the legal issues of generic medicine, you can refer to the Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act of 1984. This law essentially increased the protection of patented products, but also allows generic medicines makers to produce their medicines. Generic drugs are effective, safe and FDA approved.

the United States does not have exclusivity on the process of patenting. However there does exist different standards of patenting in India in China and other countries. Furthermore, the bottom-line is that with the different patenting policies from different countries, patenting is a non-issue in the long run.

India passed the Patent Act in 1970, which allows Indian companies to make generic and cheaper alternatives for well known medicines. Then on 2004, India changed its patent standards to allow patents on chemicals. As of date, there are approximately 6,000 patents filed under the Indian government. India's patent system is designed to encourage firms to invest in low-cost manufacturing processes and make the generic medicines widely available to the market at low prices.

With this development, India is now producing roughly half of the world's antiretrovirals, most with modest cost and with the country also supplying much of the ingredients for the drug.

All our medications are produced by the following Indian Pharmaceutical Companies:

You'll find that each company's website has the necessary information explained about the products they produce. It also has information about checking production control, technology services, pharmaceutical news and research laboratories. We have been working with these reputable suppliers for five years already. Our customers are really satisfied with the quality of our medications. Because of the inexpensive cost, our customers have the money to afford these generic drugs in bulk. You will also likely have the ability to do the same. Because of these reasons, most customers come back to purchase again and again.

Why are generics cheaper?

Generics are much cheaper than brand-name drugs because generic companies do not have overhead cost such as research and marketing. Most generic drugs are manufactured off-shore and sold online. Since manufacturers do not spend on advertising, research, and creating a physical store, the cost savings are passed on to the consumer.

The US FDA and its arm, the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research stated that because of the existence of generic medicines, the drug costs per day can fall up to 14%. Patients who are fully satisfied with generic medicines can enjoy as much 52% in savings from generic medicines.

USA Drug consumprtion
Brand pills, 56 %
Generic pills, 44 %

Currently, within the United States more than 44% of all prescription medication has an equivalent counterpart being generic. It's always up to the customer of whether or not they choose to use generics instead of name brand medications. This decision can be made with the help of your physician and/or pharmacist.

It will be important to consult with your doctor about any prescription medication being replaced with generic versions. Choosing to go with generic medications will significantly lower your health care costs yearly while still effectively maintain your necessary medication intake.
